Mareblob

mareblob

n. The marsh marigold, Caltha palustris.

Etymology, according to the OED:

Compare the synonymous May-blob n. at MAY n.2 Compounds 2, MOLL-BLOB n., MOLLY-BLOB n., water-blob n. at WATER n. Compounds 8c. The second and third of these, and possibly also the first, may be alterations of compounds of Mary (compare marigold and also English regional mary-bout, mary-bud in Eng. Dial. Dict. Suppl.), of which mareblob itself might be either a variant or an antecedent form.
